Keg of Aged Hunter's Ale Scam
I don't know if this is new but someone in LA tried to sell me a Keg of Aged Hunter's Ale with only 1 use remaining........I want to report him to ArenaNET but I think he will get away with it because "technically" he did submit an offer of a single Keg of Aged Hunter's Ale in the trade window for the agreed upon price in our chat
stupid me......I didn't ask how many uses were left

- 50 uses : Gold
- 49..25 : Silver
- 24..1 uses : Cooper.
Hm... I wonder if items can change their names like that...

Simply highlighting the number in red could help lower the risk of people not seeing the scam. It's a "nice" social engineering story, another one to add to the wiki page:
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Common_scams
I'm sure I can come up with general, easy to remember rules for not being scammed. But people would read them and forget them a little while after!

But 100% of scams happen because there's an asshole trying to take advantage of another guy.

Stop telling him "your fault" or "owned" when you can't even read properly ...

I wouldn't say 100%.
I've made mistakes when putting things into the trade window before. For example, I had several Charr Salvage Kits in pre-searing. One had only one use left, but I had three full ones. Someone wanted to buy a full one. I put the near-empty one up for trade, but caught the mistake as soon as I'd pressed submit offer. Changed to the full kit, and everyone went home happy. But it's perfectly possible to make mistakes like this and not catch them -- and have the other person think you're trying to scam.
I'll agree that the vast majority of problem trades come from someone trying to take advantage, but not all.

This is a really obvious scam and I immediately knew what it was going to be before I clicked the thread. Also the OP didn't seem to actually get scammed, so I'm failing to see the point here, aside from a warning to an imaginary population of overly stupid individuals who also want Kegs of Aged Hunter's Ale.

Anet could make it that if you use the Keg it becomes customized to you, thus when you try to sell it it gives the warning to the other player that the item is customized. But can still can be sold and used by another player.
